Future of African youth lies in agriculture, not Europe: AfDB President

After recently being named the winner of this year’s World Food Prize, the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwunmi Adesina was quick to mention that much still needs to be done to secure the future of Africa’s young people by leveraging on the potential of the agricultural sector. His achievement of investing $800 million to support young agro-entrepreneurs in 8 countries last year has inspired a new resolve to scale the investment to 30 countries this year. In his words – “I don’t believe that the future of African youth lies at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea…The future of African young people lies in a more prosperous and inclusive Africa, and there is no other sector that has greater power to create growth than the agricultural sector.”
